I have had canaries for over 35 years, have 7 right now and have raised a dozen or so from eggs. I think that the negative reviews are misguided. This is a reference book. Robirda's books do not have many illustrations or photos and they are not in color. However, they have a LOT of information that very few, if any, other sources have. In my opinion, it is absolutely one of the best books out there on keeping canaries - if you can read and not just look at pictures. I have both of her books plus about a dozen other highly rated canary books - including most mentioned as better (I disagree) in other reviews, but her's are my "go to" references.

Excellent book on caring for and breeding canaries!!!!! Many great ideas!!! Follow-up to Brats in Feathers by the same author!!!
I'm implementing Robirda's suggestions for my 11 canaries. They are a lot of work but fun to to hear their songs and to get to know them.
Nice book, well written. However, not a single picture to accompany explanations. As someone new to breeding canaries, I find Canary Tales a much more useful and practical book. Wish I hadn't wasted my money when I already owned Canary Tales. I was simply trying to learn more but there really wasn't anything new for me in here except a lot of scientific explanations.
WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SEEN MORE COLORED PHOTOS OF CANARY COLORS.

This is an informative book but has no illustrations. I thought by looking at the cover there would be pistures so I could see the various varieties. However, I was disappointed after opening the book. However, if you want basic information that goes into depth on raising canaries this is the book for you.
Thought this would be loaded with colorful photos. Almost no photos. Only on the cover. Wouldn't buy again.
An absolute must-read for canary fanciers. Robirda gives great advice in an understandable, non-technical way. Nutrition is the key to healthy, robust singers and this book gives you great information. I have had canaries in my home for years and learned a lot of new information from this book.
