This is about a married couple (Bronwyn and Bryce) who had a severe break down in communication when Bronwyn tells Bryce she is pregnant. This leads to an estrangement for 2 years until they are brought back together when she sees Bryce's brother who then tells Bryce where to find Bronwyn. She is forced to move in with him again and endure emotional and verbal abuse for most of the book. Their relationship is strained and dysfunctional to say the least. There are some steamy scenes that are pretty hot and the characters and storyline are darker than your basic romance novel. It does have a good ending, but if you're looking for a lighter romance novel, look elsewhere.

A Husband’s Regret is a stand-alone story with the early premise of an unwanted wife with a two year old child being located, and subsequently reunited with the husband who had rejected her after informed of the pregnancy. The book includes multiple sexual interludes which are sensuously described in detail. The story itself has a lot more meat to it than did The Unwanted Wife, book 1 of this series, but I found that book to be more believable. Most of the angst in A Husband’s Regret seemed falsely created, as if the author kept adding more and more story elements just to create a cohesive whole out of one which didn’t really exist. It felt like padding on top of padding, rather than a believable story. Here are just a few inconsistencies It’s bizarre that Bronwyn would be desperately in love with Bryce, and yet, although having sensuous sexual interludes with him, start rejecting him right after he indicates that he wants to have a family life with her and their child. Additionally, Bryce's behavior of continually resenting Bronwyn for her supposed actions, and yet refusing to listen her side of what had happened, and after hearing it to even consider her side, makes no sense, especially given his obvious feelings for her. Also, a formerly hearing person who was subsequently deaf for many years would not have acquired the speech reading/lip-reading skills portrayed in this book by the character, who had experienced a more recent hearing-impairment. Many, many persons who use signing skills as a means of communication do not acquire lip-reading/speech-reading skills, and even those highly skilled with speech-reading (lip-reading) skills can discern only about 30 % of conversation. Admittedly, this unrealistic portrayal might have disturbed me more than others, as I had worked in a related field for quite a few years.

Unfortunately I found myself struggling to get through this book, not really caring enough to want to read it to conclusion. There were too many improbable happenings within the one main story. This was disappointing as I had really enjoyed The Unwanted Wife, and had therefore quickly purchased Book ll of the series. Sometimes good development of a basic story is enough, and adding a tangled weave of numerous other happenings is too much. In the case of A Husband’s Regret, the numerous improbable happenings detracted from what otherwise would’ve had the potential to become a very good story. That being said, it must be pointed out that this author seems to be not only capable of better work, but also a writer with good potential. I look forward to reading other works by her, if only to determine whether or not the quality of book 1 of The Unwanted series is an anomaly, or representative of better things to come. My anticipation is that her better works have yet to be seen, but are forthcoming.
Spoilers! Are we supposed to feel sorry for the Hero? Because he was in an accident and got hearing problems? It has NOT given him the right to be nasty, mean and hateful! He treated his wife, our heroine, very cruelly saying he doesn't want their baby or her. After two years he suddenly accuses her of depriving him of their child, threatening to take the little girl from her as revenge. He bullies and lies and is every way horrible person. And she keeps apologizing and doing everything as he orders as a good doormat does.
No way is that love!
And suddenly there's HEA and all is forgotten and forgiven. I wanted to vomit.
Save your money and your mental health, don't read this rubbish.
I read The Unwanted Wife and I had a hated-it-then-loved it feel for it. In the end the H showed remorse, begged forgiveness and proved his love and devotion to his h. In the end I fell for their HEA.

A Husband's Regret was nothing like that. The things he did, and said and allowed to happen to his h was so bad that nothing he did (which tbh, wasn't much anyways) could make up for it. He was huge into DENIAL. He literally brainwashes himself so that he can hate the h for abandoning him. Has zero remorse in placing all the blame on the h and even when the truth comes out, he never acknowledges his large part in the misery they find themselves in. He is the biggest jerk ever for the majority of the book, like 60-70%, that I found myself cringing quiet a few times and dreaded whenever he interacted with the h because it was painful to read what spewed from his mouth.

The only admirable trait I found was that he was great with his kid. It was like he turned into this completely different person when he was with Kayla, and that side of him was wonderful. I just couldn't enjoy that or forgive him because his double personalities were so glaringly different. I couldn't reconcile the two different personalities with the one man Bronwyn was supposed to entrust her self and her child to.

I think it might have been too much to ask of the author to have two awesome hate/love reads for me. There is a third (and last?) in the series and I'm still curious enough to maybe pick it up. But I think I'll take a break from this author for a bit.
