Seduced Lost in Oblivion Volume 1 Cari Quinn Taryn Elliott 9781940346038 Books
Seduced is a great opening act to this series . . . a full-length prequel that introduces readers to all the players, along with the guitar cases they tote - all overflowing with emotional baggage. Oblivion is a rock band in turmoil - living in run down apartment under a laundromat - adrift and in danger of crashing & burning out. The magic is gone, and the words just won't come as in-fighting & the loss of their drummer to drug rehab is threatening the solidarity of the band. In a last ditch effort to turn things around, Deacon suggests bringing in another drummer and guitar player extraordinaire - Jazz (a spunky, sparkly, drum playing chick) and her "friend" Grayson (who can smoke the strings off a guitar). But, not all the original players are open to bringing in outsiders - plus a chick in a band is just asking for trouble, right? Tension is high, tempers flare, jealousy raises its ugly head, and the band is close to imploding. Success in the rock world is illusive - so close & yet so far away. The guys of Oblivion can see it, taste it, smell it . . . but can they grab it & hold on? Are Jazz & Gray the creative spark they are missing? Or will they be the straw that finally breaks the guitar strings?Seduced is told through the alternating pov's of Simon and Nick. At first, I felt a little like a leaf blowing in the wind, hoping to land on one pov or the other. However, the transition between them soon began to flow smoothly, and I found being inside the minds of both guys added an emotional connection & sense of urgency that might have been missing otherwise. All of the characters have strengths & weaknesses that are revealed as their vulnerabilities are exposed & exploited. Everything from passion to unrequited love to jealousy to resentment to guilt to addiction (to more than drugs) are evident as this story plays out.
Seduced is a great introduction to this series as it familiarizes readers with each of the characters, including their dreams & desires, wants & needs, and vulnerabilities. Beyond that, it's also a great read with lots of smokin' hot sex, drama, longing & desire, and heartache. And then there's the music, carrying & moving the story forward on the melody, saying what some can't find the courage to say any other way - it's all there in the words of their songs. Seduced is as essential to this series as each of these characters are to the band. What an awesome "opening act"! A Must Read!

Seduced Lost in Oblivion Volume 1 Cari Quinn Taryn Elliott 9781940346038 Books Reviews
So this review might seem weirdly timed. Why? Well, because it’s the FIRST book in the series and I’ve already read and reviewed all of the OTHER books (here, here, and here) in the series. Well, that’s because I read it last. Not on purpose, but well, I got confused. Normally I hate reading things out of order, but Seduced is a book .5, and I read book 1, Rocked, first. Silly me. Fortunately I felt like Rocked made perfect sense to me when I read it, so I didn’t realize I was missing anything until later. But of course, I had to go back and read it (especially since it’s currently FREE) and LORD AM I GLAD I DID!
Overall Rating 5 stars- Screw sleep! I’ll let the kids watch TV and eat hot dogs tomorrow.
Okay, so, let’s say I were to think most of this book sucked (it didn’t) and I hated the characters (I didn’t) and the editing was awful (it wasn’t) it would STILL get 5 stars because holy crap on a cracker, this book contains one of the smokin’est hot sex scenes I’ve ever read. (And I’ve read a LOT of sex scenes.)
The minute I caught my breath after….. that….. was over, I went running to Cari & Taryn’s fan group and pretty much stuttered (as much as one can stutter while typing.)
Okay, so I can’t give it away, but let’s just say there are more than 2 people there and oh, oh, oh how I want to be Jazz when I grow up.
“Why don’t you take her and be done with it?”
So, um, yeah. Let’s talk about the other stuff, because that was really good, too. First of all, I obviously come into this a little bit oddly because I’ve already read the entire rest of the series. So I already know and love the characters and this was more like getting a flashback for me. But it did make some things that I already knew make more sense, and just had some really great moments, too.
“Gray can have me? Like I’m a damn pork loin?”
I liked seeing how the band came together. I hadn’t understood how members of Lost in Oblivion had ended up with 2 new members, exactly and this completely explained this.
As I’d already seen the guys doing well, it was interesting to see them sharing a hovel in a laundromat. Since most of the musicians I’ve known in real life are pretty much poor schlumps who drink too much beer and have too much sex, it was actually pretty hysterical to see that in the book.
I had been under the impression that this was a novella – it is not. It’s a full length book and completely feels like one. I think the reason it’s considered a .5 instead of a book 1 is because it’s not actually a romance. I mean, we see the beginnings of a lot of future romances, but there’s no HEA here. This is about getting to know the band and seeing them become the rock-stars they will become.
I thoroughly enjoyed it even outside of The Scene, but The Scene took is way over the top. Holy crap, Cari and Taryn are my smut-writing idols. All hail Cari & Taryn.
Smut Factor 5 stars- Had to wake my husband at 2am to quench my “need.”
Character likability 5 stars- He’s my book boyfriend and I want to BE her.
Storytelling 5 stars- I wake up thinking this really happened.
Writing and editing quality 5 stars – Excellent!
